The Dutch Chamber of Commerce to update SBI codes

The Dutch Chamber of Commerce (‘Kamer van Koophandel’), where all Dutch businesses are registered, will update SBI codes in the beginning of September 2025.

SBI (‘Standaard Bedrijfsindeling’) code classifies each business based on its activities and is assigned by the Chamber of Commerce when a company is registered.

Every 15 years, the Chamber of Commerce will add, split, merge, and remove several activity codes to reflect the changes in the market. For instance, whereas streaming service did not exist 15 years ago, it is quite widespread these days.

For Dutch entrepreneurs, it is important to ensure that their business is registered with the correct SBI codes. SBI codes are used by various authorities and banks to determine their rights and obligations, including loans, subsidies, and pension premium. Therefore, it is recommended to double-check the SBI code after the update in September 2025, and to report changes if it is incorrect: https://www.kvk.nl/en/report-a-change/changing-or-adding-business-activities/.
